Dak & Lood: custom order configurator

Feature for ordering bespoke guttering and cavity flashing profiles

Question:

We would like to offer a feature on our online shop that allows customers to choose their own specific configuration for items such as guttering

The request was to build a feature within Lightspeed that would make it possible to offer a range of products that could be selected step by step. Not like the familiar ‘related’ products or a standard bundle, but as a package of products that complement one another and can be ordered as a single, customised package: for example, a guttering system of specific dimensions, complete with connectors and end caps, a number of mounting brackets and other accessories.

This means that the individual, bespoke products must be able to be linked together via the LS back office, after which they can be combined in a few steps via the shop to form a single composite order. It was important that the products should also remain available for purchase as individual items.

Dakenlood.nl specialises in everything to do with gutters and leadwork for water drainage and roofing. All individual components are available for purchase via the online shop, but the question was whether we could build a selection assistant (configurator) that could intelligently configure a combined order of products that fit together (and connect to one another). In doing so, we had to take into account the various dimensions and combinations – for example, in terms of diameter or product variant – of the products to be selected.

It therefore had to be possible to incorporate these mutual “dependencies”, whilst ensuring that all products remained available for individual purchase and that stock levels for each product could be tracked. Totalli therefore built a tool structured in stages, which can be managed as efficiently as possible via the Lightspeed back office. The visitor is prompted to make a selection at each stage, and the subsequent steps are tailored to this as effectively as possible.
